Seed to Stem 183 Green Street #3 Worcester, MA
Seed to Stem is an instagrammable boutique located in the Canal District of Worcester at 138 Green Street. They sell houseplants and succulents as well as curated decor and houseware items like crystals, stoneware, incense, and coffee table books. This women-owned business was established in 2011 and has since been featured in Vogue magazine’s directory of small businesses in 2021.
Upon entrance, you are immediately greeted by lush green plants, incense, and a cozy bohemian vibe. There are vintage Persian-style rugs atop the wood flooring of the historic Worcester mill building as well as quiet corners with chairs strewn with fur blankets. Large windows at the front of the store provide beautiful natural light for the plants. The displays throughout the store are carefully curated and every corner is masterfully decorated. This spot is paradise for anyone looking to capture instagram-worthy pictures in Worcester.
It is a great place to browse for inspiration. There are displays of plants hanging on a decorative ladder and within drawers of an old apothecary cabinet that inspired me to think of unconventional ways of displaying my plants. Some of my favorite finds were an Arabica coffee plant ($15) and a scientific-inspired test tube propagation holder ($20). Other cute items were air plants within sea urchin shells ($10+) and within animal skull planters ($25+). Beautiful glass terrariums of various sizes contained succulents, air plants, and crystals. Gorgeous geodes and crystals were on display throughout the store as well. In addition, the back wall had a selection of natural soaps, candles, and beauty products for purchase.
Prices range from $5 for a small succulent to over $200 for a giant monstera or large glass terrarium. They also sell items to help with care for your plants like misters, propagation vases, moss support poles, and ceramic pots.
I found that stopping by Seed to Stem when the first open was the least crowded time. The store is fairly large, so there was still enough space to look around even when there were a lot of people browsing. However, I would recommend going early on the weekends or stopping by on a weekday if you want to take pictures without many people in the background.
Within the mill building at 138 Green Street you can also find The Haberdash (a clothing boutique), Bedlam Book Cafe, Crompton Collective (a curated boutique), and Birchtree Bread Company. I recommend stopping by Birchtree Bread Co for a coffee and pastry or toast after you browse Seed to Stem. There is ample street parking as well as parking lots located within a 5 minute walk of the building. On the weekends, Worcester Public Market is open and located adjacent to 138 Green Street for more shopping in the Canal District.
